I’ve used this first year as a parent to evaluate where I wanted to go with the photography business. I’ve really taken it slow getting back to shooting because it has been such an adjustment to add a precious child into a life that already included a full-time job as an attorney AND a passion for photography. The best part of my “break” has been that I’ve been able to focus on the photos that I REALLY love to take. The REAL ones.
I will be shifting my focus to lifestyle sessions.
For example, traditional newborn sessions were never really my thing. Instead, newborn sessions with kai will now be focused on a day in the life with a new baby. The moments that new moms and dads are just too overwhelmed to capture themselves. The precious ones that are all too fleeting and happen in those first “life is all a blur” days. I will be posting one of these sessions very soon, but they will include the every day moments and activities that make up the most extraordinary time of your life!
Lifestyle sessions are NOT exclusive to newborns by any means. Couples, families, pets, it doesn’t matter. Let me document your daily life, your favorite things. I will also be adding an option for album design. Any session maybe turned into an affordable album for your family to cherish for a lifetime.
I really want to shoot more birthday parties and special events. They are truly my favorite thing to do. The imagery of a birthday party with all of the excitement and attention to detail is really so fun to me. I learned my own lesson recently when I threw my son’s first birthday party. I can not tell you the number of hours that went into planning this party. And what did I do the entire party (aside from worry about the thunder and rain that never came)? I took pictures. I can’t recall more than just a couple of conversations that I had with my guests. I can’t remember spending more than a minute or two with my son other than the candle blowing and icing smearing. I took pictures. If I had it to do again, before I picked out the cake or even the theme, I would have booked a photographer! A real aha moment! Planning a party…call me! You won’t regret it.
Traditional sessions are still very much an option, but during those sessions, I really want to focus on bringing more life into my images. No more stiff ”say CHEESE!” - not that I did before because cheese isn’t really the most attractive expression, but try telling that to a 3 year old! Let’s go have a picnic, enjoy ourselves and LIFE!
Real Life. That is what I want.
